A Little About Dr J
Welcome
I’m Dr. Jasneth James, DNP, FNP. I am honored to be a Family Nurse Practitioner, educator, bestselling author, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and lifelong advocate for preventive healthcare.
For more than 30 years, I have been blessed to serve others through medicine, education, writing, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian outreach. My work has taken me through many seasons, and each one has shaped the woman I am today.
This blog is where I share the experiences, lessons, faith, and wisdom that continue to guide my journey. It is also a place where my work in health, wellness, authorship, service, and community empowerment can come together in one meaningful space.
My mission is simple:
To educate, inspire, and empower others to live healthier, more purposeful, and more informed lives.
Over the years, patients, friends, colleagues, and even strangers have encouraged me to share more.
I often hear:
“Dr. J, you’ve lived enough for ten people. You need to talk about it.”
So here I am, creating one place where the many parts of my life can live, breathe, and hopefully bless others.

A Life Dedicated to Healthcare
Healthcare has been both my profession and my calling.
Throughout more than three decades in the field, I have worked in many areas of healthcare, including:
Emergency medicine
Operating room nursing
Preoperative and postoperative care
Medical-surgical nursing
Corrections (State and Federal)
Developmental disabilities
Functional medicine
Community health
Men’s and women’s health
Preventive care
Private practice
My journey eventually led me to become the owner and operator of my own medical practice, where I continue to focus on prevention, education, wellness, and helping people become more active participants in their health.
I strongly believe that patients should not only be told what is wrong. They should also be given the knowledge and practical tools needed to make informed decisions about their lives.
Educator, Mentor, and Lifelong Learner
Teaching has always been one of the most meaningful parts of my career.
I have proudly served as a:
Clinical instructor
Didactic instructor
Practicum instructor
Advisor to nursing cohorts
Preceptor to undergraduate and graduate nursing students
Mentor to students working toward professional and academic success
I have taught and supported students at the RN, BSN, MSN, NP, and doctoral levels.
Mentorship is especially important to me because I understand how powerful it can be when someone believes in your ability, encourages your growth, and helps you see possibilities beyond your present circumstances.
Author and Publisher
Writing has become another important extension of my mission.
I am the author of books, manuscripts, educational materials, blogs, and health resources created to educate, encourage, and inspire.
My published work includes the I Rise Up series, which shares themes of survival, resilience, healing, faith, and purpose.
I am also the author of the cookbook series:
Let Food Be Your Medicine... Not the Cause of Disease
This series was created to help readers better understand the relationship between food, chronic disease, prevention, and healing. My goal is not simply to provide recipes, but to help people understand why their food choices matter.
As I continue to publish, this blog will serve as a central place for readers to learn more about my books, articles, health education, humanitarian work, and future projects.
Beyond Medicine
One of the greatest lessons life has taught me is that our gifts do not always fit neatly into one category. Beyond healthcare, I have embraced many different roles and interests.
I have experience as:
A real estate investor
A property renovator and builder
An owner of an assisted living facility
A former beauty salon owner
A home decorator and interior design enthusiast
A cook, entertainer, and hostess
An entrepreneur with a passion for building meaningful projects
I have participated in demolition, rehabilitation, property improvement, design, and home transformation. I enjoy seeing what something can become, whether it is a building, a business, a community project, or a person who simply needs encouragement.
I have also developed a deep love for cooking and creating meals that bring people together. That passion, combined with my healthcare background, helped inspire my cookbook series.
A Heart for Service
Service has remained one of the strongest threads throughout my life. Some of my greatest blessings have come not from professional titles, but from opportunities to serve people who needed compassion, support, education, or hope.
My humanitarian and community work has included serving:
More than 10,000 homeless men and women through years of outreach
Students from underserved backgrounds
Individuals affected by domestic violence
Families navigating dementia and caregiving
Churches and community organizations
Communities in Jamaica, Mongolia, Honduras, and across the United States
Individuals reached through medical missions, health education, and wellness programs
I remain passionate about addressing health disparities and helping underserved communities gain access to information, resources, and compassionate care.
A Vision for Ghana
One of the most important goals of this season of my life is my long-term vision for improving healthcare access in Ghana. This initiative is deeply personal to me. As a woman of Caribbean heritage with ancestral ties to Ghana, I see this work as both a professional calling and a meaningful journey of service.
My vision includes working alongside local leaders, healthcare professionals, churches, educators, and community organizations to support sustainable programs focused on:
Preventive healthcare
Rural and underserved communities
Mobile medical services
Community health education
Blood pressure and diabetes screening
Healthcare workforce development
Training for community health workers and caregivers
Women’s and men’s health
Modular clinic development
Long-term lifestyle and wellness programs
My goal is not to enter a community with all the answers. It is to listen, learn, build trusted partnerships, and help develop programs that can continue to serve people for generations. I believe healthcare should not be confined to the walls of a hospital or clinic. It should reach people where they live, work, worship, and raise their families.
Advocacy and Awareness
There are several issues that remain especially close to my heart.
These include:
Domestic violence awareness
Dementia education
Preventive healthcare
Nutrition and chronic disease
Women’s empowerment
Men’s health
Faith-based healing and resilience
Community education
Access to care for underserved populations
My own experiences have taught me that people often suffer silently because they lack information, support, or a safe place to speak. Through my writing, teaching, and public work, I hope to help create those spaces.
Faith at the Center
No matter how many roles I have held or how many places I have traveled, my life remains anchored in one truth:
Everything I have accomplished has been possible because of God’s grace, guidance, and goodness.
My faith has carried me through seasons of joy, disappointment, loss, challenge, growth, and renewal. It shapes how I serve, how I lead, how I write, and how I respond to the world around me. I believe that purpose is not only about personal success. It is about using what God has placed in our hands to uplift others. Everything I share comes from a place of authenticity, respect, honesty, and hope. My words may sometimes be direct, but they are always rooted in a desire to help, educate, and encourage.
Speaking, Teaching, and Collaboration
I welcome opportunities to participate in:
Podcasts
Speaking engagements
Health lectures
Community workshops
Church programs
Professional panels
Author interviews
Educational events
Humanitarian partnerships
Healthcare and wellness collaborations
My areas of discussion include preventive health, nutrition, chronic disease, resilience, faith, domestic violence awareness, dementia, entrepreneurship, authorship, humanitarian service, and building purpose after adversity.
A Love for Travel and Lifelong Learning
One of my greatest joys is traveling and experiencing the beauty, cultures, and people that God has placed throughout the world.
Travel has taught me that although our languages, customs, and traditions may differ, our hopes, struggles, and desire for health, peace, and opportunity are remarkably alike. Every destination has broadened my perspective, strengthened my compassion, and reinforced my commitment to serving others wherever God leads me.
Whether I'm serving on a medical mission, speaking at an event, exploring a new country, or simply learning from the people I meet, I believe every journey offers an opportunity to grow.
My Greatest Accomplishment
When people ask me about my accomplishments, they often mention my degrees, professional career, businesses, books, humanitarian work, or community service. While I am deeply grateful for each of these blessings, I know that none of them would have been possible without God's grace.
Every opportunity, every achievement, every lesson, and every open door has been a gift from Him. Through seasons of joy and disappointment, success and adversity, He has remained faithful. Without His guidance, strength, mercy, and provision, I would not be the woman I am today.
I give God all the honor, all the glory, and all the praise for everything He has allowed me to accomplish. My greatest desire is that my life, my work, and my service will always reflect His love and bring glory to His name. I eagerly look forward to spending eternity with Him.

Dr. J
